On January 7-9, 2021, the first annual “Ultimate Music Business Summit” premiered with 27 online presentations and multiple live panels, each discussing different business topics specifically in terms of how they relate to people who work—any level and any amount—within the music industry. The summit was the brainchild of Dr. Garrett Hope, who is a composer, speaker, writer, and the host of The Portfolio Composer podcast—which (as of my writing this) has recently released its 234th episode!

I was very proud and honored that I was one of the first resources Garrett reached out to when he started planning this summit. Because I not only own FireSpike but also am a composer myself, Garrett interviewed me in his 72nd podcast (back in 2016!), specifically about websites for composers.

And so it was that he reached out to me on November 20, 2020, explained the idea of the summit, and asked if I would be willing to include my expertise on the subject in one of the summit’s pre-recorded video presentations. I was more than happy to!

My video presentation, “Websites 101 for Musicians”, was on the Day 1 lineup of videos in the three-day summit and received very good feedback. It was very rewarding to hear from many participants that the information I had included was practical and helpful.

In addition to the video, FireSpike held a drawing for the free installation of a WordPress website, 90 minutes of WordPress Training, and one year of Essential Hands On Monthly Maintenance & Hosting.

Congratulations to Megan Harton, Winner of FireSpike’s Drawing in the Ultimate Music Business Summit

Composer and multi-instrumentalist Megan Harton was one of about 20 participants in the summit who entered FireSpike’s drawing:

“…I would love a website that serves as a portfolio of my compositions, as well as a place to find my bio, links to my social media and recordings, upcoming events and contact information. Perhaps even a menu of different services such as commissions, lessons, live performance, presenting/speaking engagements.”

I look forward to working with Megan to launch her new site and show her how easily she can manage all of those things using WordPress. Stay tuned for news about the launch date for her new site!
