Google Using Page Speed in Mobile Search Ranking

Is Your Website Ready for the ‘Speed Update’?

Google announced that they will now be using a website’s speed in search ranking for mobile websites. While a website’s speed has been used to determine the search engine ranking on desktop pages, starting July 2018 speed of a mobile webpage will also be used to determine ranking for mobile searches. Google stated on their Central Blog:

“The ‘Speed Update,’ as we’re calling it, will only affect pages that deliver the slowest experience to users and will only affect a small percentage of queries. It applies the same standard to all pages, regardless of the technology used to build the page. The intent of the search query is still a very strong signal, so a slow page may still rank highly if it has great, relevant content.”
